Metinvest Produces Its First Social Report for 2008
Metinvest, an international vertically-integrated mining and metals company, has presented its first social report developed to Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards. The report outlines key initiatives on the company's CSR priority areas in 2008, in particular, health and safety, environmental protection, social protection, development of employees, and investments in local communities. The report covers eight companies of the Metinvest group, which represent key industrial areas of the company in Ukraine (iron ore and coal mining, production of steel, iron ore and coke, as well as rolled products and pipes) and, due to their specific activities, have a large environmental footprint, as well as affect local communities in the regions of their operation. A special focus is given to industrial and environmental safety, as control and ceaseless efforts to lower the risks to life and health of workers remains the company's top priority. From its very outset, the company has carried out complex and systematic activities to improve these areas. The measures taken are supposed to develop a new culture of safe operational behavior, which will place Ukraine among the countries taking the lead in labor safety. Please click here to learn more.
